2/26/12 BOLD

The theme for this week is Bold.  We have been learning about the importance of being bold when it comes to our faith.  Sometimes it can be scary to talk about our faith to our friends and family who do not know about Jesus, but if we do not, who will?
We learned about different leaders in the bible who were sometimes afraid of the task that God had given them.  In Joshua chapter 1 we saw how God comforted Joshua because he was afraid to take over leading the Israelites from Moses.  We also looked in Ephesians 6:19-20.  In these verses, Paul asks other Christians to pray for him to be fearless.
Another good scripture to show your kids is Acts chapter 4.  This is a story about how the early followers of Jesus were persecuted for their faith, and instead of hiding they prayed for more boldness from God.

What's This?

Hello, welcome to the LSCC family ministry blog.  This project is designed to connect parents to what is going on in the youth and children's ministry at Lawton Street.

Some of you may have noticed that I have been writing letters about what is going on in Sunday school and children's church.  Right now, all of our youth are learning an age appropriate version of the same thing, based on a word which acts as a weekly theme.  For example, last week the word was Adventure, so we learned about how God has a plan for us and how following Jesus is an adventure.  This lesson was taught in Sunday school from pre school-3rd grade, Children's church, Wednesday night youth (pre-6th grade) and Sunday night youth (Jr/Sr High).  My plan is to provide you, the parent, with this knowledge so that hopefully you can find a way to study together with your child and disciple them.  Studies show that kids who receive discipleship in their home from their parents are more likely to stick with their faith when they grow up and move out of the house.  So in this way I plan to partner with you.  Every week, in addition to leaving a hard copy of the letter about what we have been studying, I will post it on this blog and put a link on Facebook.  I will also be blogging about resources and ideas to help your family grow closer to Jesus together.
